Dutch Nationals great succes
Written by Margje Tempelaars, on 24-09-2007

ImageThe Dutch Nationals in Workum last weekend were a great success. With a total of 35 boats and 7 boats from England, France, Germany and Belgium there was a good competition on the IJsselmeer.

At first we want to congretulate Herve le Maux and Joanna Jones-Pierce for winning the Dutch Nationals. They sailed very well and proved to be too strong for all the other competitors.

The top 3:

1. Herve le Maux (FRA) and Joanna Jones-Pierce (GBR) (FRA 7777)
2. Mark Rijks and Brenda Liefhebber (NED 7757)
3. Bas Leijen and Diane Roks (NED 573)

Top 3 student (class boats) teams:

1. Margje Tempelaars and Mirian Pieterson (NED 7841)
2. Roel Everaars and Maarten Godschalkx (NED 2167)
3. Laura Talsma and Matthieu Keizer (NED 892)

The first day sailing had a good start with a nice and steady 5 bft, but in the first race all sailors were shocked when Harry (NED 6174) and Cor (NED 7845) had a big collision after the spreader bouy. Cor's crew was knock-out and had to go to the hospital. Luckily everything is ok with her now. We want to wish all of them the best to get better.

Saturday was without wind.  To make sure nobody would get bored while waiting for wind, Herve started a theory training on shore. He had an excellent presentation on how to trim and sail a Dart 18 and learnt us some tactical tricks.

The last day was good with 3 bft and sunshine. Herve and Joanna showed they not only were good with much wind, they also proved to be good sailors in light winds, leaving a big gap between them and the number two. After the first race Frens and Jente Hoving lost their mast, luckily they got help from a passing yacht, who helped them to get the mast back on, so they could continue racing.
The student teams had a tactical fight in the back/middle of the fleet and worked hard to get the first student price.

After three days with exciting experiences, we can say the Nationals were a great success, we loved to have some sailors from the other countries, we have had some good sailing and it was a good preparation for the Worlds in 2008 in Workum. We would like to thank the racing committee for their help with the rescuing and for the good work they have done.

The top 3:

1. Herve le Maux (FRA) and Joanna Jones-Pierce (GBR) (FRA 7777)
2. Mark Rijks and Brenda Liefhebber (NED 7757)
3. Bas Leijen and Diane Roks (NED 573)
