The organisation is proud to present the official location for the Dart 18 Worlds 2008! The worlds are to be held in Workum, a small village next to the "IJsselmeer" in Friesland (Northern Holland). The Worlds will be held in the second week of August 2008 (9-15 August). We expect to have a lot of Dart sailors at our event and the organisation is working hard to organise a spectacular event on water and on shore. The program of the worlds will be published later on.
Workum is well known by people who like watersports and the local sailing club is experienced in organizing the regatta’s of big sailing events, like the European Championschips Optimist, European Championships Europe and Dutch Youth Regatta (with up to 600 different boats). The organization will publish the Notice of Race soon. The IJsselmeer is one of the best places in the Netherlands to organize a World Championship with most of the times good wind and nice short waves, which makes sailing exciting.
The small town of Workum lies in the southwest corner of the province Friesland and is one of the oldest cities in the province. There is always plenty to do and see in Workum: from the Jopie Huisman museum to cosy terrace cafes and from shopping treasures to the pleasures of nature. You could enjoy the fabulous paintings of the eccentric scrap merchant Jopie Huisman, or you may choose to visit the history museums where you can become familiar with the rich heritage of Workum. A stroll through the historic centre of town is an attraction in itself; the many splendid monuments and gables appear to line up for your inspection. Beside these man made attractions, the landscape and natural heritage that surround our small city are at least of equal interest. Relaxing nature walks and invigorating bicycle rides along the coastland of the IJsselmeer (lake) and through the many picturesque villages and hamlets are a joy to the soul.
